The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, in collaboration with Ibhar, launched a pilot project on Tuesday aimed at strengthening infection prevention and control waste management at hospitals in the city.

B. Sriramulu, president of the Chamber, and K. Annamalai, its secretary, announced that 10 leading hospitals would participate in the three-month-long pilot project. Around 100 nurses, with 10 from each hospital, will receive specialized training, and some will receive stipends during this period. A consultant will conduct the training sessions, focusing on best practices to prevent infections and manage hospital waste, particularly in Intensive Care Units.

Funded by the Central government with an allocation of ₹ 25 lakh, the training program is being implemented by the National Productivity Council. In Coimbatore, the Chamber serves as the nodal agency for this initiative, working closely with Ibhar to raise awareness and improve infection prevention and waste management practices in healthcare settings.
